Use the web app and self-host it
The Lumetrope web app is a static site: open it in a modern browser and it works, with your projects and version history stored in the browser. You can also host the same static build yourself on any web server.
Which browsers work?
Chrome and Edge 91+, Firefox 89+ and Safari 16.4+. Chrome and Edge also get File System Access, so Cmd/Ctrl+S can save back into the file you opened.
How do I self-host Lumetrope?
Serve the contents of the built dist folder as plain static files. There is no backend. Paths are relative, so it works at a domain root or under a sub-path.
- Use https. File System Access, WebCodecs (WebM export) and clipboard paste need a secure page. Over plain http Lumetrope still works: Open uses a file picker, Save downloads the file, and WebM export is disabled with an explanation.
- Serve
.wasmasapplication/wasm. Most hosts do by default. With a wrong type it still loads, only slower. - Cache wisely. Files under
assets/have content hashes and can be cached forever. Do not cacheindex.htmlfor long.
nginx
server {
listen 443 ssl;
server_name lumetrope.example.com;
ssl_certificate /etc/ssl/lumetrope/fullchain.pem;
ssl_certificate_key /etc/ssl/lumetrope/privkey.pem;
root /srv/lumetrope;
include mime.types;
location ~* \.wasm$ {
types { application/wasm wasm; }
add_header Cache-Control "public, max-age=31536000, immutable";
}
location /assets/ { add_header Cache-Control "public, max-age=31536000, immutable"; }
location = /index.html { add_header Cache-Control "no-cache"; }
}
listen 443 ssl needs the ssl_certificate and ssl_certificate_key lines (use your own certificate paths, or Let's Encrypt). Keep include mime.types; and put types { ... } only inside the .wasm location: a types block at server level replaces the whole table, so scripts such as .js would be sent as application/octet-stream and the app would load blank. Recent nginx versions already map .wasm, so that location is only needed on older ones.
Caddy
lumetrope.example.com {
root * /srv/lumetrope
file_server
header /assets/* Cache-Control "public, max-age=31536000, immutable"
}
Does MCP work on a deployed web copy?
No. MCP is hidden on copies served from a remote server, because a website cannot reach an MCP server on a visitor's computer. Use the desktop app, or serve Lumetrope from localhost. See Connect AI agents with MCP.
